When composing my academic mindset project, I worked alone. This approach always works well for me because there aren't to many distractions. I also don't have to answer to anyone when it comes to my own work. There is never a difficult part about working alone, in my opinion it is very beneficial. There aren't hundreds of opinions I have to listen to or I don't have to feel bad about disagreeing with someone. Overcoming this was very easy and didn't have much of an effect on me. This time I wrote this blog in the living room, as I had mentioned before my son is always playing in there so its hard to get things done. But on this particular day I was home alone with the exception o my son. He napped for an unbelievable 3 hours, I had so much time to get my thoughts together. This was a great approach because in that amount of time I got all of my work done. I wrote this blog a few days ago which sucked because I didn't start working on it right away and that pushed me back a little. I will say that this approach wasn't a very good one. I definitely needed more time instead of having to cram it all into one day. I very much agreed with Carol Dweck on her opinion of growth and fixed mindsets. She gave so many examples which lead me to believe she has a strong argument on this topic. I haven't yet revised my project but when I do I plan on adding a lot more detail so it's more comprehensible. I definitely won't wait until the last minute to do so, I will still to my normal writing process.

In this Non Cognitive Report, Teaching Adolescents to Become Learners there are many different topics discussed. One of the most important topics are the academic mindsets which are belonging, growth mindset, self efficiency and relevance/purpose. Out of those mindsets I feel as though growth mindset applies to me the most. By a growth mindset I mean believing you can develop your abilities through hard work and dedication. You're able to take constructive criticism and use it to better whatever it is you're that your working on. You work hard to get where you want to be.
Having this mindset here at DCCC is most important because I can easily achieve academic success. I do very well with constructive criticism , I feel like it is the most helpful feedback you could get. It makes me want to do better and work harder, my goal is to always learn from my mistakes. There are times I want to give up but then I remember that sometimes you have to struggle in order to thrive. During the struggle there are many things going through my mind. Am I going to do well ? What can I do in order to get this done ? I have to stop and think, I always tell myself I can do it and revise my strategy if need be. With all of this being said, throughout my college years I know I will be able to succeed with this mindset if I can continue to learn from my mistakes and tr to develop all of my abilities. |
